36 squadre hanno preso il via della prima delle cinque tappe che compongono il RallyClassics Africa 2024, questo rally-raid di regolarità, in programma dal 12 al 18 Settembre.
Le forti piogge della scorsa settimana hanno costretto a modificare il percorso in alcuni tratti, dando sempre la priorità alla sicurezza degli equipaggi. La partecipazione di team internazionali di lunga esperienza, il ritorno della leggendaria Seat Toledo Marathon (vincitrice nel 2023) e la grande presenza del TH-Trucks R-Team e del Pedregà Team, grandi incentivi per il RallyClassics Africa.
Puntualmente alle prime luci dell’alba del 14 Settembre, 36 equipaggi hanno preso il via del RallyClassics Africa 2024, il rally-raid di regolarità organizzato per il secondo anno consecutivo in Marocco attraverso le regioni di Erfoud e Merzouga.
Il RallyClassics Africa è un evento aperto alle auto 4×4 classiche (prodotte fino al 2005) e moderne, ai camion e ai veicoli SSV. Gli equipaggi hanno davanti a sé 1.000 chilometri di percorso, di cui circa 700 suddivisi tra zone di regolarità e zone di navigazione.
Il rally-raid si compone di cinque tappe, tutte concepite come un test perfetto per prepararsi alla Dakar Classic e all’Africa Eco Race, ma anche per consentire ai nuovi equipaggi di scoprire la regolarità del fuoristrada.
L’itinerario dell’evento è stato disegnato dal club organizzatore RallyClassics in collaborazione con Josep Maria Servià e Fina Román, e presenta un livello di difficoltà superiore a quello dell’edizione 2023.
Le forti piogge che si sono abbattute negli ultimi giorni sulla regione hanno costretto l’organizzazione ad apportare diverse modifiche al percorso. L’intensità delle precipitazioni è stata tale che nelle dune di Merzouga sono emersi addirittura dei laghi naturali, un fenomeno che non si verificava da decenni.
Alex Romani, presidente di RallyClassics: “Siamo felici di lanciare la seconda edizione di un evento che sta crescendo in tutti i sensi, affermandosi nel calendario internazionale del fuoristrada e arrivando con un notevole salto di qualità. La nostra attività in questi giorni si è concentrata nel proporre un percorso tanto emozionante quanto impegnativo, considerando il grande impatto che le piogge degli ultimi giorni hanno avuto sul tracciato inizialmente previsto”.
Una prima tappa ricca di competizione
L’alto livello di competizione del RallyClassics Africa è stato confermato dalla prima tappa disputatasi il 14 Settembre, con partenza e arrivo alla base del rally, l’Hotel Xaluca di Erfoud.
Carlos Santaolalla – Jan Rosa (Toyota Land Cruiser HDJ80) hanno ottenuto la vittoria in questa prima tappa, superando con uno stretto margine di soli 5 punti di penalità Antonio Rius – Carles Jiménez (Seat Toledo Marathon).
Con la disputa della seconda tappa, gli equipaggi metteranno piede per la prima volta sulle tanto attese dune di Merzouga, dove torneranno durante la quarta e la quinta tappa. L’evento si concluderà mercoledì 18 settembre.

On schedule with the first light of dawn, 36 teams took the start of RallyClassics Africa 2024, the regularity rally-raid that is being organised for the second consecutive year in Morocco through the regions of Erfoud and Merzouga.
RallyClassics Africa is an event open to classic (manufactured up to 2005) and modern 4×4 cars; trucks and SSV vehicles. The teams have 1,000 kilometres of route ahead of them, of which around 700 are divided between regularity and navigation zones.
The rally-raid consists of five stages, all designed as the perfect test to prepare for the Dakar Classic and the Africa Eco Race, but also to allow new teams to discover off-road regularity.
The itinerary of the event has been designed by the organising club RallyClassics in collaboration with Josep Maria Servià and Fina Román, and has a higher level of difficulty than the 2023 edition.
The heavy rains that have fallen in recent days in the region have forced the organisation to make several changes to the route. Such has been the intensity of the rainfall that natural lakes have even emerged in the dunes of Merzouga, a phenomenon that had not happened for decades.
Alex Romani, president of RallyClassics: “We are delighted to be launching the second edition of an event which is growing in every sense, establishing itself on the international off-road calendar and arriving with a notable qualitative leap. Our activity in recent days has focused on offering an itinerary that is as exciting as it is challenging, considering the great impact that the rains of the last few days have had on the route initially planned”.
A first stage full of competition
The high level of competition of RallyClassics Africa was confirmed from the first stage, with start and finish at the rally base, the Hotel Xaluca in Erfoud.
Carlos Santaolalla – Jan Rosa (Toyota Land Cruiser HDJ80) have achieved victory in this first stage, surpassing by a narrow margin of only 5 penalty points Antonio Rius – Carles Jiménez (Seat Toledo Marathon).
With the dispute of the second stage, the teams will set foot for the first time on the long-awaited dunes of Merzouga, to which they will return to during the fourth and fifth stages. The event is set to finish on Wednesday 18th September.
